August 2025
The fields around our SchapfenMühle have been harvested and the silos are filled with grain: the 2025 harvest is over.
How it went and what impact the rainy weather had will be analyzed in detail shortly and, as always, published in our harvest report (in German).

July 2025
On July 19, 2025, an exercise took place on our silo tower. Participants included the Ulm Fire Department's high-altitude rescue team, the Baden-Württemberg police helicopter squadron, and the ARS of the Stuttgart Fire Department's high-altitude rescue team.
Among other things, the exercise involved lowering rescuers onto the narrow platform, hoisting “patients” using a winch, and abseiling from a height of over 100 meters. There were numerous helicopter flights throughout the day. Spectators were able to watch the action while normal silo operations continued.

The Ulm high-altitude rescue team comprises 18 specialists who regularly train in industrial facilities or difficult terrain. The units already worked together successfully during the floods in the Ahr Valley in 2021. The exercise did not go off without a hitch: a police helicopter was deployed at short notice to search for a missing 82-year-old man, who was later found unharmed. During the exercise, the crew also discovered a field fire near Westerstetten, which was quickly brought under control.
July 2025
On July 1 and 2, 2025, our customer event for major clients took place in bright sunshine. In addition to delicious snacks and cool drinks, there were informative presentations on grains, a field tour, and a guided tour of our SchapfenMühle mill.
Of course, the silo tower was a must-see. In small groups, our guests enjoyed the breathtaking view over Ulm.
We are very pleased with the successful event and would like to thank all the helpers who contributed to it.

June 2025
On June 27, 2025, we celebrated this year's summer party in glorious sunshine. All employees were cordially invited to spend an unforgettable day, along with their partners and children.
The festival offered a colorful program for young and old alike: in the afternoon, there was coffee and cake, a speech by Executive Director Ralph Seibold, and a varied children's program. In the evening, delicious food from the “Flotten Lotte,” refreshing cocktails, and musical entertainment by a DJ followed.

Two contests provided excitement: a SchapfenMühle quiz for adults and a colorful wheel of fortune for children. Of course, climbing the tower for an impressive view over Ulm was also a must.
Special thanks go to all the helpers who contributed to the success of this wonderful day.
We are already looking forward to the next celebration together!

June 2025
As part of a practical training course, sales staff, technical consultants, and application engineers from SchapfenMühle visited MIWE. The aim was to deepen their specialist knowledge of modern oven technology and learn about new developments.
During the training course, various baked goods were produced on different oven systems. The focus was on the targeted use of the respective technology to achieve optimal baking results. Particular emphasis was placed on the different setting options for the ovens – such as temperature, steam, air flow, and baking time – and their influence on the end product.

Another focus was the presentation and practical testing of the MIWE SmartFresh system. Participants were able to see the advantages of this innovative freshness concept for themselves and test its application directly in practice. Now we are refreshed and ready to support bakers with advice and assistance, armed with new expertise.

On May 7, the 11th AOK Company Run took place in Ulm. We participated with 12 motivated colleagues as the “SchapfenPower” team!
The start and finish line was at the Donaustadion. The 7.4-kilometer route led through the idyllic Friedrichsau, on to Neu-Ulm, and finally back along the Danube to the finish line, where cold drinks and good conversation awaited us.
It was an all-around successful day and a great opportunity to experience team spirit outside of the everyday work routine. We are already looking forward to the next run!

Our SchapfenMühle mill is breaking new ground with Proservation: our grain residues are being turned into sustainable packaging – natural, sturdy, and environmentally friendly. The natural Styrofoam of tomorrow!
The spirit of this collaboration is rooted in the shared value chain itself: it is important to actively incorporate the perspective of grain processing at an early stage—not least with a view to securing access to spelt for Proservation.

“At SchapfenMühle, these plant residues are produced in large quantities and on a regional level—ideal conditions for a circular, partnership-based model,” says our Executive Director Ralph Seibold.
Our partnership is long-term and stands for the sensible use of resources, value creation, and the vision of a true circular economy.

Christian Zweckinger, head of our baking center, has done it – he is now officially a bread sommelier! He impressed the 19th course at the Federal Academy in Weinheim with his passion and expertise. Fourteen other bread sommeliers were also awarded the title. The number now stands at 279 worldwide.
Bread sommeliers are experts in bread. They combine knowledge of production, ingredients, and traditions with creativity and innovation. Their mission: to bring the culture and diversity of bread to life and inspire people to take an interest in this craft.

Christian Zweckinger has been with SchapfenMühle for 15 years. His career began with an apprenticeship as a baker, progressing to master baker and then DLG bread inspector. His further training as a bread sommelier perfectly complements his passion for bread and offers great added value with its sensory training.
